Pousada Trijunção
Location
240km east of Brasilia (The Cerrado, Brazil)
Description
A wildlife lodge on a 33,000ha farm adjacent to the Grande Sertão Veredas National Park on the junction of Goiás, Bahia and Minas Gerais states, 5 hours' drive east of Brasilia. The lodge has an excellent restaurant and a small pool (with massage table and hot tub) and plenty of communal areas for relaxing. There is a strong focus on conservation as this is one of the last refuges for the endangered maned wolf which is highly adapted to the Cerrado savanna ecosystem, and the NGO Onçafari studies both wolf and jaguar behaviour here, with several collared individuals. A family of marmosets lives around the lodge, and tocu toucans and blue-and-yellow macaws are frequent visitors.
Activities
Excursions are discussed on arrival and will vary according to the time of year and weather conditions. All visitors will get a chance to go on a morning or evening tour with the Onçafari team as they track the maned wolves, which are mainly nocturnal.
Accommodation
There are 7 rooms in the main lodge in 3 categories: 3 comfortable standard rooms, 3 premium (with a separate sitting area and veranda) and a master (a larger version of premium). There is a separate 2-bedroom villa a short walk from the main lodge. All rooms have air-conditioning and a private bathroom.
