Pacuare (The Central highlands, Costa Rica)
A beautiful lodge on the Pacuare river best reached by white-water raft (grades 2-3). The main building is set above the river with good views, a large dining area (mostly open air), an open kitchen and upstairs bar with comfortable sofas and chairs. There is no electricity so everywhere is candlelit at night.
Rafting, canopy with zipline, hiking, birdwatching, massages, riding and mountain bikes.
There is a range of very comfortable cabañas/suites. The river suites are spread throughout the gardens, some offering partial river views. The river view deluxe suites have a private terrace with views of the river and surrounding forest. There are also some more luxurious large suites including the Linda Vista suites and Jaguar Villa, exquisitely furnished and very grand, with wonderful views, a large lounge and deck areas and a private pool. The original honeymoon suite is very private, up on the hillside (170 steps) with access via its own suspension bridge line to a tree house! It has a large bedroom, private deck and a spring fed plunge pool. In all the suites the windows are screened, the beds have mosquito nets and the decor is very tasteful.
A lovely place to relax for a night or two even if you do not do be too active. The food is a real highlight the staff are very friendly and it has a wonderful relaxed atmosphere.

Our accommodation was wonderful, some of the best we've ever stayed at. Pacuare in particular was very special. When they opened the doors to the Morpho suite I was blown away! - ES, November 2011
We have some amazing photos taken by the Lodges’ paparazzi and the rafting really was a thrill a minute. Pacuare Lodge is set in the most wonderful surroundings and well worth the pulverising ride. - CS, February 2011
The Pacuare Lodge and the Linda Suites in particular - WOW!!!!! It was truly the highlight of the trip, what a spectacular place. We couldn’t believe it. We also met the owner's wife who was exceptional. The staff were incredible, the suite AMAZING. And the rafting full-on and fun. The whole experience is highly recommended. - JL, March 2010
