San Gerardo de Dota and San Gerardo de Rivas are small remote villages in unspoilt cloud forest with excellent birdwatching opportunities, particularly for the famous Resplendent Quetzal.

Lodge/Hosteria - San Gerardo de DotaThe lodge is set in 20 hectares of private cloud forest and has beautiful views of the forest with self-guided nature walks through it. Inside the lodge is a gallery with local artwork and a dining room. All rooms are scattered in the gardens.

Intially designed as an artist's retreat the property combines combines a 125 acre private nature reserve with a designer hotel and contemporary art project. The aptly named Azul restaurant is excellent.

Lodge/Hosteria - San Gerado de DotaA simple lodge on the banks of the Savegre river, surrounded by pristine forest and an excellent base for bird-watching. The lodge is made up of 26 rooms, a separate bar, restaurant and ponds where they farm rainbow trout (served fresh every night).
