In Chile we have a new option for winter in Torres del Paine. Only a handful of lodges remain open throughout the Patagonian winter and Awasi Patagonia is set to join them in 2027 for the first time.
While winter brings cooler temperatures to Torres del Paine, the wind is generally lighter, visitor numbers are lower and the landscape takes on a quieter, more atmospheric character. It can also be an excellent time for wildlife encounters, with pumas among the highlights.
As part of a conservation initiative supported by Fundación Faro Verde, Awasi will offer private puma-tracking experiences led by expert guides. Guests will also be able to explore the winter landscape on snowshoes or on horseback, with all excursions arranged privately.
Set just outside Torres del Paine National Park, Awasi Patagonia is an intimate luxury lodge currently comprising twelve individual cabins. Two new ‘Cenit Villas’ (each with two bedrooms, two guides and two vehicles) are scheduled to open in January 2027, adding further accommodation options ahead of the lodge’s inaugural winter season.

In the Brazilian Amazon, near Manaus, Anavilhanas Lodge has introduced a new private retreat offering guests the chance to spend a night deep within the rainforest.
Casa Passarinha is located 60km upriver from Anavilhanas Lodge and can only be reached by boat. Inspired by traditional Indigenous Amazonian dwellings, the retreat is deliberately simple and designed to sit naturally within its forest surroundings. Everyone sleeps together under one roof, with a choice between a traditional hammock or a bed, surrounded by the sounds of nature.
Casa Passarinha is available exclusively to guests staying at Anavilhanas Lodge for a minimum of three nights and is designed for families or groups of up to 12 people.

Finally, some British Airways news that we’re genuinely excited about, with a number of changes to its Latin America network from spring 2027.
- From 29 March 2027, British Airways will operate a year-round service between London Heathrow and San José, Costa Rica, with three flights per week. The route currently operates seasonally, from November to March. This follows its move from London Gatwick to Heathrow earlier this year.
- From 28 March 2027, Buenos Aires, Argentina will once again have a daily non-stop service to London Heathrow. They currently touch down in Rio de Janeiro.
- From 28 March 2027, flights between London Heathrow and Santiago, Chile will increase from three per week to daily. On the down side this does mean that they will now touch down in Buenos Aires in both directions.
With increased frequency to Santiago, year-round access to Costa Rica and a return to non-stop flights for Buenos Aires, these changes should make reaching Latin America from the UK easier and more flexible for 2027 travel and beyond.
