Hosteria Faro San Isidro
Straits of Magellan, 1 hour from Punta Arenas (Punta Arenas and Puerto Williams, Chile)
A lovely wooden lodge away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Access is by road 30 minutes from Punta Arenas, and another 30 minutes dinghy ride. The views across the water are stunning and behind the lodge is the old San Isdro lighthouse which can be visited.
There are a couple of hot tubs filled with sea water and heated by woodburners, and also a sauna. Hikes can be made round to Aguila Bay or up Mount Tarn (visited by Charles Darwin). Kayaking is also possible, as is a visit to Cape Froward (the southernmost point of the mainland).
The six rooms are simply done but each has a private bathroom and the beds have cosy down duvets. The lounge/dining room has a woodburner as well as open fireplace and huge windows that make the most of the views.
It is a wonderfully serene place to be and a great place to relax.
When to go
The best time are the summer months from October to April but the lodge plans to be open the winter months also (in which case the road access may take a little longer).
