Peru Family Adventure - activity and culture
New family adventure from Amazonas Explorer for the summer months, with biking and hiking mixed into wonderful cultural experiences, culminating in a home-stay on a remote island in Lake Titicaca.
Lima
Day 1: Arrive into Lima for a night in Miraflores.
Cusco
Days 2-4: Fly to Cusco for 3 nights, and enjoy a day of riding (easy level), rafting in the Rio Urubamba (no experience necessary) and visits to the key heritage sites in this wonderful city.
Sacred Valley
Days 5-6: Do some fun inflatable canoeing, then continue to Pisac. Hike round the ruins above the town and transfer to a beautiful hacienda. Visit Chinchero for a full day mountain bike ride, down Inca trails to Maras and the impressive salt flats.
Machu Picchu
Days 7-9: Go by train to Km 104 for the start of the one day Inca Trail. Arrive at the Sun Gate and see the Machu Picchu ruins spread out below. Stay in Aguas Calientes and return next morning for a tour of the site. Return to Cusco for 2 nights.
Lake Titicaca
Days 10-12: Go by bus across the stark altiplanico scenery to Puno for the Lake Titicaca adventure, spending a night on the remote island of Amantani and staying in a traditional family homestead. There will be chance to hike and fish and explore the island. You will also visit Taquile, another fascinating island, before returning for a last night in Puno.
Lima
Day 13: Fly from Juliaca back up to Lima for international connections home.
