North of Salta: Jujuy and Humahuaca image

North of Salta one climbs through the arid UNESCO world heritage site of Quebrada de Humahuaca valley, a long gorge of coloured rock scattered with giant cacti where lovely layered colours are visible in the rocks.

Our preferred accommodation

  • El Manantial del Silencio image

    El Manantial del Silencio

    Inn/Posada - Purmamarca
A mock colonial estancia right on the edge of the pretty village of Purmamarca, and a great base from which to explore the Humahuaca valley. There is a large garden and pool with good views of the surrounding colourful mountains. The estancia has been immaculately furnished with colonial décor and has a comfortable sitting area and good restaurant.
  • Hosteria Iruya image

    Hosteria Iruya

    Lodge/Hosteria - Iruya
Way of the beaten track, along a bumpy (and at times precarious) road, the Hosteria Iruya is a wonderful modern hotel perched above the picturesque Andean village of Iruya with stunning views of the mountains and gorge. Though at altitude, the surrounding trees are teeming with finches and parakeets and the hotel has a large outdoor terrace which overlooks the village, ideal for taking in the panoramic vistas.
  • La Comarca image

    La Comarca

    Country hotel - Purmamarca
A comfortable hotel just outside the centre of Purmamarca in the foothills of its famous multicoloured mountains. There is a restaurant, spa and heated outdoor pool. There is also a cosy communal area.
