Bosque de Paz Lodge (Lodge/Hosteria - Central Highlands)
The lodge is part of a 988 acre private biological reserve between Poas and Juan Castro National Parks. Run not-for-profit the owners are dedicated to protecting the natural habitat, it is a friendly lodge with cosy communal sitting areas. The area attracts a large number of birds including quetzal and emerald toucanet. Excellent guides can be organised locally or explore the trails on your own. View details
Finca Rosa Blanca (Country hotel - Heredia)
A small country inn, just 20 minutes from the airport, with lovely views over the valley and coffee plantations, a pretty pool, jacuzzi and large gardens. It has a good restaurant with indoor and outdoor sitting areas, a bar and small spa. View details
Hacienda Tayutic
(Hacienda - Sitio de Mata, Turrialba)
Closed from April 2013.
A lovely family property with lots of history, set on a hillside with stunning views of the Turrialba Valley. There is an orchid nursery and lush foliage in the grounds and hummingbirds and frogs abound in the sloping gardens. The homely atmosphere of the house creates a warm welcome for guests. View details

A small American-owned boutique hotel on a coffee plantation with stunning views over the valley. A beautiful place to relax after your international flight. There are 2 swimming pools and walks to five natural waterfalls. They have a spa, large sitting areas and lovely gardens.

A beautiful lodge on the Pacuare River best accessed by raft (grade 2-3) with a lovely relaxed atmosphere. The main building is set above the river with great views, a large dining area (mostly open air), open kitchen and upstairs bar with comfy sofas and chairs. Very friendly staff and good food.
