Hacienda Tayutic, San José and the Central Valley
Location
Sitio de Mata, Turrialba (San José and the Central Valley, Costa Rica)
Description
A lovely family property with lots of history, set on a hillside with stunning views of the Turrialba Valley. There is an orchid nursery and lush foliage in the grounds and hummingbirds and frogs abound in the sloping gardens. The homely atmosphere of the house creates a warm welcome for guests.
Activities
You can learn about the cultivation of coffee, macadamia and sugar cane on the estate, there are historical working tools and traditional practices are still in use. Three stone spheres on the edge of the garden are very ancient and thought to have come from the Osa Peninsula.
Accommodation
The six bedrooms are all beautifully and individually decorated with paintings by local artists, antiques and Guatemalan textiles. There are large common areas in which to sit and relax and enjoy the lovely views.
Our comments
A delightful place to stay, offering an interesting insight into a Costa Rican estate. It is the perfect spot in which to relax for a night or two, especially if you are continuing on towards the Pacuare river or Tortuguero.
Client comments and reviews
“The best accommodation was Hacienda Tayutic where we were totally spoilt with a fantastic room, tours, view and food. The family were all there celebrating their Easter holidays and it was great - their hospitality was very welcoming!” - HB, April 2011
“Hacienda Tayutic was everything and more than we expected. What a fantastic place. We were their only guests that day and we felt like we were being welcomed by the family as house guests. Superlatives for everything there. We just pootled around after lunch, with our binoculars. It was truly lovely and they served the best coffee of the entire holiday!” - S&M H, February 2010
